So now that school is done, I’ve gotten back into my habit of watching copious amounts of cartoons.
Tonight was a double feature night. I finally watched Justice League: Doom and Wonder Woman. I had heard really great things about Doom and had been anticipating it for a long time. I think it’s slightly overrated, to be perfectly honest. I like senseless violence against our favorite heroes as much as the next girl, but I’ve seen better. Seriously, after Batman and Superman: Apocalypse, nothing seems to be quite as action packed in an animated feature.
In the case of Wonder Woman, I was pleasantly surprised. Much to contrary belief because of my love of comics and my obvious feminism, Wonder Woman is far from my favorite female hero. Nonetheless, I do respect her immensely for everything she has done and continues to do for females in comics. This movie was a really great origin story to Hippolyta, Artemis, Diana, and the other Amazons. Also, it was hella dark and quite violent. I like that. (for those of you who don’t know, Under the Red Hood is one of my all time favs, so yeah) I think I’m jaded from Wonder Woman because DC does push her on us a little hard sometimes, and because of her attitude and overall demeanor, I’m finding it difficult to feel like she’s relevant to our generation. This movie addressed something I was really happy to see; sex equality. Wonder Woman always symbolized strong, empowered, independent women. A lot of people out there seem to equate feminism to man hating. That exact topic is addressed in this film. Diana does her fair share of stereo-typing and man hating in this film, especially towards Steve, but they prove that it’s merely from lack of exposure and education. And finally, through education and enlightenment she wants to build a bridge between the Amazons and all of man kind. It’s pretty awesome.
So there you have it folks. Next on my list is Green Lantern. Message me with your fav animated features! I love both DC and Marvel, but DC just happens to have a lot more, so that’s why I feature them on here so often. Plus, I’ve seen pretty much all the Marvel ones since I was like 17, haha.
